Morocco Camel Trekking Tour - Fez to Marrakech. 3 days/2 nights

Day 1: Fez - Erg Chebbi Dunes. Camel Trek and Desert Overnight. (D)

Our Morocco camel trekking tour starts with a  pick you up from your riad in Fes, and drive towards the south via the Middle Atlas mountains, stopping in the cedar forest to see the Barbarian Apes in their natural habitat. Traveling through the Tizi Ntalghamt pass to Midelt and along the magnificent Ziz Gorges carved through volcanic rock, you’ll see views of the Middle-Atlas plateau, noticing how the scenery changes to reveal hints of the desert as you approach the city Errachidia. After lunch, we’ll continue our journey through the Ziz valley to Rissani and Merzouga, our home. After a glass of mint tea, you’ll be ready for your camel and guided by an experienced camel guide you’ll start your safari exploring within the mysterious sand-sea of the Erg-Chebbi. Here you’ll spend your night under the stars in a traditional Berber nomad tent. Dinner will be served in the tent where you’ll spend the night.

Day 2: Merzouga Desert - Todgha gorge - Dades Valley (B/D)

Your camel guide will wake you up early in the morning to watch what well may be the best sunrise of your life. Afterwards, you’ll peacefully camel-trek back to your Riad appreciating the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes – changing with the light as the day progresses. After breakfast in the Riad, you’ll leave for Tinghir and Todra gorges – the highest, narrowest gorges in Morocco. Here you’ll have the opportunity to hike along it’s valley. After lunch in the heart of the gorge we’ll drive through the Dades Valley, where you’ll see the majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Overnight accommodation will be in a hotel in the heart of the gorge. Dinner, bed, and breakfast.

Day 3: Dades Valley - Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah - Marrakech

After breakfast in the hotel we’ll drive through the Dades Valley towards Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. The route through Dades Valley is the way of the thousand Kasbahs – providing numerous opportunities to take some of your best photographic shots of the trip. We’ll stop at Kalaat Mgouna, “the rose city”, to purchase the rosewater, which will make your linen smell good a long time after your trip is over. Continue to Ouarzazat, “the Hollywood of Africa”. Lunch is at the famous Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco. After touring this UNESCO matrimonial historical site, now a house of the Glaoui family members, our journey will continue through the majestic Tizi ‘n’ tichka pass (2260m) over the High Atlas Mountains, before arriving at your accommodation in Marrakech, where the tour ends

Having recently completed a 14 night and 15 day tour of Morocco with our wonderful, friendly and very knowledgeable guide Hamed and driver Ibrahim (who kept us very safe on the long drives); I could not recommend Atlas Desert Tours enough. Right from the start the company was easy to deal with - assisting us via email to design a tour suited to our needs and budget with exceptional value for money. We chose mid range accomodation which was perfect - the company picked lovely authentic riads for us which were situated in accessible and safe locations. Our transport via mini van was very spacious and clean. Perfect for the longer car trips.

My husband and I booked 5 days and 4 nights with Atlas. Our driver Mohammed was wonderful, safe driver who instilled a lot of confidence in me. Our guide Mbark was incredible, filling our days with beautiful sights, incredible history, and great stories. His knowledge of Morocco is a gift to tourists. He does a great job of breaking the day up with stops for the bathroom, food/beverage, and shopping. We were incredibly impressed with the choice of nightly accommodations. We were comfortable, well-fed, and surrounded by the beauty of Morocco. "Camping" (an incredible luxury with indoor plumbing) in the Sahara was so memorable. Do not miss! We will absolutely be back to Morocco, and when we do, Atlas will be our first call.

We took a 6 day, 5 night trip to Morocco using Atlas Desert Tours for our booking. Said was extremely helpful in organizing the trip and made a great itinerary for us! Our guide (Hamid) and driver (Mohammed) were absolutely wonderful! They made sure wet got to see all of the highlights during our quick trip and accommodated our requests along the way. Snow on the mountain pass on one of the days delayed our travel but they still made sure we made it to the desert by sunset! The local guides in Fes and Marrakech were so knowledgeable as well. The luxury desert camp, which is fairly new, surpassed my expectations. Overall, I would highly recommend this trip. The only suggestion I have is to stay longer than we did!
