This 7 days expedition will enable you to learn about the Amazigh culture and enjoy the diversity of the dramatic landscape that southern Morocco has to offer.


This will take you to the heart of the country - to meet people with rich hearts and warm hospitality. You will enjoy travelling through vast, arid landscapes - with dry, fine air. Sleep under an unspoilt sky, revealing millions of stars. This expedition starts and ends in Marrakech, and it is possible to extend it to 11 days. Welcome to enjoy Morocco as we enjoy it, Mrahba.


Day 1: Marakech - Telouat - Ait Benhaddo - Ouarzazate

Today, we will pick you up from your Hotel in Marrakech, and departure to Telouet over the mountains of high Atlas passing through the Tizi N’tichka pass (2260 m in altitude), visit the Kasbah of Pasha Glaoui in Telouet and stop for lunch in a local restaurant. In the Afternoon we will drive to Ait Ben Haddou along the Ounila valley with its Berber villages. You will visit the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou then continue to Ouarzazate. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Ouarzazate. DBB


Day 2: Ouarzazte - Ait sawen - Tizi N’Tnifift(1710 m) - Draa Valley - Zagora

After Breakfast in your Riad you will travel to the south and cross the second pass which is Tizi N’Tnifift at 1710m and Ait Saoun village, the former route of caravans for Sahara traders coming from “Tombouktou”, you will reach the first administrative centre called “Agdez Village” that marks the source of Draa Valley, with it’s 6 successive palm groves stating (Mezguita palmary, Fezouata...) and Kasbahs stating the famous Tamnougalt Kasbah. You will continue through the lunar landscapes and the Pre-Sahara routes until you get to Zagora which is a small town, the native region of Saadian dynasty (Saadian tombs in Marrakech) who used to rule Morocco in the XVII century. 18 km further more you will arrive to Tamgroute, a small village where most of locals are pottery handicrafts, Tamgroute is also well know by it’s old Coranic school and library collecting the old books.You will be back to Zagora where you spend the first night. Day 3: Zagora - Tansikht - Tazarine - Rissani – Merzouga (Camel Trek and Desert Overnight)

After breakfast, you depart from Zagora towards the famous dunes of Erg Chebbi known as Merzouga Sahara desert dunes as well. The adventure continues along the valley of Draa, the village of Benizoli and Tazarine crossing the villages of Ait Atta of the Anti Atlas. You will free time for lunch in Alnif, a Berber village known for trilobite extractions (Possibility to have a specialized guide to explore the trilobites, orthocere, ammonites and other fossils). After lunch, you will continue to Rissani city, the former capital of the Alawites Sultans. Rissani is known for its important market for caravans of sub-Saharan region Sijilmassa and the Moulay Ali Cherif gate, visit of the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, where the father of the founder of the Alouite dynasty is buried. This is a wonderful destination for those who wish to learn some of the history of the country. There is much to see at the gate. Afterwards, you will cross the Erg Chebbi to arrive at the inn at the foot of Merzouga Sahara desert dunes. Overnight include Dinner and Breakfast in the Inn Overnight include Bed ,Dinner and Breakfast your Moroccan authentic Riad. DBB


Day 4: Merzouga – Hassi labied – Khamlia – Nomad family – fossil Site – Tour of the dunes

Wake up early morning to enjoy the sunrise on the top of the dune in the Sahara Desert then have your breakfast. After these beautiful moments, you will ride your camel back to the hotel where you can shower. You will have a tour of the dunes on 4×4 allowing you to visit the black volcanic rocks of fossils, visit a nomad family living in tent, visit to Khamlia village and entertainment of their spiritual music of Gnawa, and visit the lake Dayte Sarji that forms in springtime which attract pink flamingos and wildlife. Then you will have a break for lunch in Merzouga or Hassi Labied. After lunch you will see the canal irrigation system and have a walk on the oasis located on the foot of the dunes. Continue to your hotel for shower and relax. DBB


Day 5 : Merzouga - Erfoud - Todra Gorges - Dades Gorges.

Your camel guide will wake you up early in the morning to watch what well may be the best sunrise of your life. Afterwards, you’ll peacefully camel-trek back to your Riad appreciating the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes – changing with the light as the day progresses. After breakfast in the Riad, you’ll leave for Tinghir and Todra gorges – the highest, narrowest gorges in Morocco. Here you’ll have the opportunity to hike along it’s valley. After lunch in the heart of the gorge we’ll drive through the Dades Valley, where you’ll see the majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Overnight accommodation will be in a hotel in the heart of the gorge. DBB


Day 6 : Dades valley – Boutghrar - El Kelaa M'gouna – Skoura – Ourzazate

After breakfast, you will begin your journey through the valley of Dades , with exploring the marvelous sights of the valley. After that we drive you over the wonderful Pist “Mil Kasbah” which is accessible only on 4x4 passing by the amazing Berber villages such as “Boutaghrar”. Besides that you will have the opportunity to meet some Berber nomads whom are living in the caves. Then continue to El Kelaa M’gouna (the valley of roses) where you will have a break for lunch,after heading to Ourzazat by crossing the beautiful oasis of the palm grove in Skoura, where you can see many exotic Kasbahsuch as Amerhidil Kasbah till reaching Ourzazat. Overnight include Bed ,Dinner and Breakfast your Moroccan authentic Riad. DBB


Day 7: Ourzazate - Tizi N'tichka - Marrakech

After breakfast in your Riad, we’ll head to Marrakech , visiting Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. The former is the largest Kasbah in Morocco, built by T-hami El Glaoui, one of the last Berber chieftains during the beginning of the XXth Century, it used to be one of his stops during his long travel from the Sahara to Marrakech. Now one of UNESCO’s world heritage sites. Your journey will continue through the majestic Tizi n’tichka Pass (2260m) over the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. Your tour ends at your accommodation or the airport in Marrakech.

My husband and I booked 5 days and 4 nights with Atlas. Our driver Mohammed was wonderful, safe driver who instilled a lot of confidence in me. Our guide Mbark was incredible, filling our days with beautiful sights, incredible history, and great stories. His knowledge of Morocco is a gift to tourists. He does a great job of breaking the day up with stops for the bathroom, food/beverage, and shopping. We were incredibly impressed with the choice of nightly accommodations. We were comfortable, well-fed, and surrounded by the beauty of Morocco. "Camping" (an incredible luxury with indoor plumbing) in the Sahara was so memorable. Do not miss!

We will absolutely be back to Morocco, and when we do, Atlas will be our first call.

We took a 6 day, 5 night trip to Morocco using Atlas Desert Tours for our booking. Said was extremely helpful in organizing the trip and made a great itinerary for us! Our guide (Hamid) and driver (Mohammed) were absolutely wonderful! They made sure wet got to see all of the highlights during our quick trip and accommodated our requests along the way. Snow on the mountain pass on one of the days delayed our travel but they still made sure we made it to the desert by sunset! The local guides in Fes and Marrakech were so knowledgeable as well. The luxury desert camp, which is fairly new, surpassed my expectations. Overall, I would highly recommend this trip. The only suggestion I have is to stay longer than we did!
