Highlights of Morocco Tour - 10 Days

If you are visiting Spain and would love to also include Morocco, this 10 day Morocco trip is for you. You will be picked up from Tangier port or airport by Spain in the north of Morocco and start your tour from there. Visit the blue city, Chefchaouen and the medieval city of Fes before heading south to the Sahara desert where you will ride camels and spend an overnight in a luxury camp. Follow the route of thousand Kasbah and old Caravan route into the Atlas mountains with its beuatiful Berber villages, valley, and gorges before you reach the colorful Marrakech.

Day 1: Arrive in Tangier by Spain (north Morocco) - Chefchaouen

Upon arrival in Tangier, you will be met by an Atlas Desert Tours’ professional driver/guide. You will visit the city of Tangiers for a few hours before departing for the blue city of Chefchaouen. Overnight in your riad include bed and breakfast.

Day 2: Exploring the Blue City, Chefchaouen

After breakfast, you will start exploring this beautiful Chefchaouen, located at the footstep of 2 higher mountains with its white washed walls, blue doors and windows. Unlike many parts of Morocco, Chefchaouen was occupied by Spain; therefore there is much influence from the Spanish civilization and Moorish architecture. In the afternoon you will have your own time. This provides the opportunity to wander around and just enjoy sometime to yourselves. Overnight in your riad include bed and breakfast.

Day 3: Chefchaouen - Volubilis Ruins - Meknes - Fes

After breakfast, you will head towards the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. You will spend the morning exploring the 2000-year-old ruins and learn about life during the Roman Empire. Lunch will be taken in Meknes, one of Morocco’s Imperial cities. After lunch, your guide will take you on a tour around the highlights of Meknes, and then you will head off to Fes, the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco, for the night. Bed and breakfast included.

Day 4: Fes Tour and Visit with Local Guide

After breakfast you will begin your guided tour of the medina, one of the world’s largest walled in cities. You will explore the narrow streets lined with fresh fruit, mounds of spices, intricately woven Berber carpets and many other art objects of Morocco. A visit to the Kings Palace, the tanneries, and potters are just a few places you will experience. For lunch you will eat in traditional restaurant in the heart of the medina. After lunch you will complete the tour and return to your hotel for the evening. Bed and breakfast.

Day 5: Fes - Middle Atlas - Cedar Forest - Marzouga desert (Erg Chebbi dunes)

After breakfast in your riad, you’ll start travelling southeast to Merzouga desert. Your first stop will be at Ifran, referred to as "the Switzerland of Morocco", and then to Merzouga via Midlet and the Ziz Valley. During this journey you’ll experience glimpses of the Middle Atlas mountains. Stopping at the famous cedar forest - the largest in Morocco – where you may well sight Barbarian apes. You’ll notice how the scenery changes to reveal hints of the desert as you approach the city Er Rachidia. After lunch in Midelt, your journey continues along the luxuriant Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views along the way. We will drive through welcoming Berber villages to Erfoud, and then Rissani, the foundation of the Alaouite dynasty - the current ruling royal family in Morocco. Arriving in Merzouga at the end of the day, you’ll be welcomed with a glass of mint tea before you check in to your riad.

Day 6: Merouga Desert Area and Camel Trekking

After breakfast in the riad you will start an explorative journey of the area. You’ll visit the Gnawa people, originally slaves brought from Sudan, to experience their music and lifestyle. Not far away there’s the lake of Merzouga, with its bird populations. You may also visit the souk in Rissani, a traditional town which was the origin of the ruling family in Morocco and the meeting place of the Caravans trading as far as Timbuctou in Mali. Here you will see a lot of men hooded and women veiled. In the afternoon you will start your guided camel ride, led by an experienced camel man to explore within the sand sea of Merzouga. Overnight at our desert camp where you will have your dinner. For your convenience, the camp is equipped with flush toilets.

Day 7: Merzouga Desert - Todra Gorge - Dades Valley/Gorge

You will wake up early to watch what well may be the best sunrise of your life. Afterwards you will trek back to the village of Merzouga, enroute you couldn’t fail to appreciate the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi sand dunes. After breakfast in your riad, you’ll leave for the Dades Valley, visiting Todra Gorges - the highest, narrowest gorges in Morocco. After lunch within the valley, you will have an optional hour’s hike through the fields where you will enjoy visiting an old mud village, meet locals and learn about the culture. On through Dades Valley, where you will have the opportunity to see majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as "monkey toes". Overnight accommodation will be in your hotel overlooking the Dades valley. Dinner, bed, and breakfast.

Day 8: Dades Valley - Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah - Marrakech

Today, we will travel to Marrakech through the way of the thousand kasbahs – providing numerous opportunities to take some of your best photographic shots of the trip. We’ll stop at Kalaa Mgouna, “the rose city”, and Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah; the Kasbah was built by Et Hami El Glaoui, one of the last Berber chieftains during the 18th century, now a house of many Glaoui people. Your journey will continue through the majestic Tizi n’tichka Pass (2260m) over the High Atlas Mountains, before ending at your accommodation in Marrakech. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad. BB

Day 9: Marrakech Tour and Visit with Local Guide

After breakfast in the riad we will take you to explore Marrakech, “the red city of Morocco.” We will ensure that you see the most important places of historical and cultural interest, including the Saadian tombs; the Palaces of El Bahia and El Badi; and the Ben Youssef Koranic school. We will stop for lunch near the square. After lunch, you will head to visit the gardens at Majorelle, Menara, and the Koutoubia tower.... Overnight in your riad located in the heart of the old medina of Marrakech. Bed and breakfast included.

Day 10: Return home

You will be taken to the airport in Marrakech or to Casablanca for departure depending on your flights' details. Tour ends at the airport.
