Kasbah Trail and Desert Tour - 5 days/4 nights

Marrakech to Fez

Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi N’tichka Pass – Telouet – Ait Benhaddou Kasbah – Ouarzazate

After breakfast in the Riad we’ll leave for Ouarzazate via the Tizi Ntichka Pass. Today you will enjoy the beautiful scenery over the High Atlas Mountrains and appreciate the remarkable Berber villages before you get to Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco. The former was built by the last Berber chieftain El Glaoui Et-Hami in the late 19th century; it is now a UNESCO matrimonial historical site, which today still houses many Glaoui family members. Lunch is by the Kasbah before we continue to Ouarzazate, “ the Hollywood of Africa”. Here you have the option of visiting the studios to see props used in some movies you might have seen, such as “Gladiator”, “Jewel of the Nile” “the last temptation of Christ”and “The Sahara”. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad. DBB


Day 2: Ouarzazate-Skoura-Dades Gorges-Boumalne-Tineghir-Todra Gorges.

This morning after breakfast in the hotel, Leaving Ouarzazate towards Skoura where we will visit the Kasbah of Amredil, a beautiful Kasbah situated in the palm groves “Route of one thousand Kasbahs”. The journey continues through the Valley of Roses then cross the off-road with the possibility to visit nomad family living in caves. You will visit the Dades Gorges and see the rock formations. After that heading to Boulmane Dades and have a break for lunch. In the afternoon, we continue to Tineghir then to Todra Gorges to enjoy its marvelous views of Canyons. Overnight in your riad DBB


Day 3: Todra Gorges – Tinejdad – Touroug town – Erfoud – Erg Chebbi ( Camel Trek )

This morning, you will walk around the Palm Plantations and enjoy the panoramic views of Todra River. Later on, we drive toward Tinjedad for a lunch meal on a local restaurant. You will pass by several villages such us Touroug (Berber village) and El-Jarf before reaching Erfoud. You will visit a local fossil craft workshop. After that you will continue to the captivating dunes of Erg Chebbi, these dunes are called also Merzouga Dunes. Arrive to the hotel and get ready for a camel trek for an hour and half to enjoy the sunset. While on the back of your dromedary, you will continue to the camp or an overnight in traditional nomad tent. Dinner and spend the night in a bivouac in the middle of the dunes. DBB


Day 4: Merzouga Desert Area and Camel Trekking

Wake up early morning to enjoy the sunrise on the top of the dune in the Sahara Desert then have your breakfast. After these beautiful moments, you will ride your camel back to the hotel where you can shower. You will have a tour of the dunes on 4×4 allowing you to visit the black volcanic rocks of fossils, visit a nomad family living in tent, visit to Khamlia village and entertainment of their spiritual music of Gnawa, and visit the lake Dayte Sarji that forms in springtime which attract pink flamingos and wildlife. Then you will have a break for lunch in Merzouga or Hassi Labied. On to see the canal irrigation system and have a walk on the oasis located on the foot of the dunes. Continue to your hotel for shower and relax. Overnight in your hotel or Kasbah DBB



Day 5: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Errachidia – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes

Today you will travel to Rissani and investigate the local market (Souks). Later on, you will depart to Errachidia via Erfoud, Aoufous and the valley of Ziz then stopping for a panoramic view of the oasis of Aoufous in the Tafilalte region.

Continue to Midelt across the pass of Tizi N’talghamt and have lunch break. After lunch you will be driven to Fes (the medieval city) via the Cedar forest near Azrou and the mountain of the middle Atlas with the possibility to see the Barbary apes (monkeys). You may have a stop in Ifrane (Known as the Switzerland of Morocco) before arriving to Fes.

Drop you off in your provided address in Fes.

My husband and I booked 5 days and 4 nights with Atlas. Our driver Mohammed was wonderful, safe driver who instilled a lot of confidence in me. Our guide Mbark was incredible, filling our days with beautiful sights, incredible history, and great stories. His knowledge of Morocco is a gift to tourists. He does a great job of breaking the day up with stops for the bathroom, food/beverage, and shopping. We were incredibly impressed with the choice of nightly accommodations. We were comfortable, well-fed, and surrounded by the beauty of Morocco. "Camping" (an incredible luxury with indoor plumbing) in the Sahara was so memorable. Do not miss!

We will absolutely be back to Morocco, and when we do, Atlas will be our first call.

We took a 6 day, 5 night trip to Morocco using Atlas Desert Tours for our booking. Said was extremely helpful in organizing the trip and made a great itinerary for us! Our guide (Hamid) and driver (Mohammed) were absolutely wonderful! They made sure wet got to see all of the highlights during our quick trip and accommodated our requests along the way. Snow on the mountain pass on one of the days delayed our travel but they still made sure we made it to the desert by sunset! The local guides in Fes and Marrakech were so knowledgeable as well. The luxury desert camp, which is fairly new, surpassed my expectations. Overall, I would highly recommend this trip. The only suggestion I have is to stay longer than we did!
