Day 1 : Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Ouarzazate – Dadés Valley

With a start in Marrakech we’ll drive to Ouarzazate through the dramatic Tizi ‘n’ Tichka pass (2260m), over the High Atlas Mountains, appreciating the beauty of the landscape on the twisted roads through the Berber villages. Arriving at the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco, now a UNESCO matrimonial historical site and house of many Glaoui family members, we’ll take lunch by the Kasbah before continuing to Dades Gorge via Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa”, along the “Road of the thousand Kasbahs”- the fascinating “sand castles”. Stopping at Kalaat Mgouna, “the rose’s city” known for roses and its annual festival during the roses harvest in May we’ll then continue to our hotel in the heart of the Dades Gorge. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad include dinner, bed, and breakfast.

Day 2: Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge – Merzouga

Leaving the Dades valley towards Tinrghir and the Todra valley you’ll see panoramic views of the old mud Berber villages overlooking the valley. Arriving at the Gorge is an opportunity to walk under the 300m high red cliff, where many rock-climbers come to enjoy their preferred sport. Continuing on to Erfoud and Rissani where we’ll have lunch before heading onto the village of Merzouga - Our home- where your camel will be awaiting you. You will be welcomed with a glass of mint tea and a turban (desert scarf) before you mount your camel, guided by an experienced Camel Guide, to explore within the mysterious sand-sea of the Erg-Chebbi. Here you’ll spend your first night under the stars, or if you prefer, in a traditional Berber nomad tent include dinner, bed, and breakfast.

Day 3: Merzouga - Ziz Valley - Cedar Forest - Fes

Your camel guide will wake you up early in the morning to watch what well may be the best sunrise of your life. Afterwards, you’ll peacefully camel-trek back to your Riad appreciating the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes – changing with the light as the day progresses. After breakfast in the local guest house we’ll travel to Fes via Errachidia along the magnificent Ziz Gorges carved through volcanic rock, and through the Tizi Ntalghamt pass to Midelt, stopping in Zaida to enjoy a barbecue and refresh with a glass of mint tea before continuing to Azrou, a Berber village in the Middle Atlas Mountains, where we’ll stop to see the Barbarian apes in the cedar forest. Having recently completed a 14 night and 15 day tour of Morocco with our wonderful, friendly and very knowledgeable guide Hamed and driver Ibrahim (who kept us very safe on the long drives); I could not recommend Atlas Desert Tours enough. Right from the start the company was easy to deal with - assisting us via email to design a tour suited to our needs and budget with exceptional value for money. We chose mid range accomodation which was perfect - the company picked lovely authentic riads for us which were situated in accessible and safe locations. Our transport via mini van was very spacious and clean. Perfect for the longer car trips.

My husband and I booked 5 days and 4 nights with Atlas. Our driver Mohammed was wonderful, safe driver who instilled a lot of confidence in me. Our guide Mbark was incredible, filling our days with beautiful sights, incredible history, and great stories. His knowledge of Morocco is a gift to tourists. He does a great job of breaking the day up with stops for the bathroom, food/beverage, and shopping. We were incredibly impressed with the choice of nightly accommodations. We were comfortable, well-fed, and surrounded by the beauty of Morocco. "Camping" (an incredible luxury with indoor plumbing) in the Sahara was so memorable. Do not miss!

We will absolutely be back to Morocco, and when we do, Atlas will be our first call.

We took a 6 day, 5 night trip to Morocco using Atlas Desert Tours for our booking. Said was extremely helpful in organizing the trip and made a great itinerary for us! Our guide (Hamid) and driver (Mohammed) were absolutely wonderful! They made sure wet got to see all of the highlights during our quick trip and accommodated our requests along the way. Snow on the mountain pass on one of the days delayed our travel but they still made sure we made it to the desert by sunset! The local guides in Fes and Marrakech were so knowledgeable as well. The luxury desert camp, which is fairly new, surpassed my expectations. Overall, I would highly recommend this trip. The only suggestion I have is to stay longer than we did!
